Programs

The French Maternal School’s approach provides for two teachers in every classroom. The low ratio of teachers to students (1:6) allows for small group learning and individual instruction, meeting the needs of each student.

Les Petits (2s):
The French Maternal School’s curriculum for 2s is designed to introduce children to school gradually. It offers a loving and nurturing environment where students learn to build relationships with their peers and develop community-based routines. To build a solid foundation, we believe that children need hands-on experiences and teachers that provide warmth and encouragement throughout the learning process. Whole group activities are emphasized to develop socialization and independent learning is also introduced. Weekly theme units provide for activities in both large group and individual areas that move children toward their potential as they explore the materials in the classroom.


Les Moyens (3s):
The curriculum prepares 3s for more formal and structured activities of Les Grands. It provides a strong foundation for further developing reading and writing skills: promotion of phonological and phonemic awareness and building of alphabetic skills including letter identification. Calligraphy and pre-writing are also introduced. Hands-on learning experiences that promote the academic, social, emotional, physical and creative development of each student are emphasized.


Les Grands (4/5s)
The program emphasizes the development of more academic subjects: letters & numbers, math, problem solving, creative thinking that provide numerous avenues leading toward the goal of literacy. The program increases letter recognition, develops phonemic awareness and solidifies alphabetic knowledge. Children will engage in a variety of hands on activities along with art and music to improve their pre-reading and pre-writing skills.
