Moyenne Section (MS)
(Pre Kindergarten-4)
4+ years old
The Moyenne Section program prepares students for the transition to Kindergarten through more structured learning experiences. Literacy development is emphasized through activities focused on letter-sound correspondence, letter formation, syllable building, and word recognition. Students are also introduced to foundational math concepts, including numbers and quantities, sequencing, pattern recognition, shapes, and early problem-solving skills.
Creative expression remains an important part of the curriculum through individual and group art projects, access to the lending library, and continued music education with elements of music theory and instrumental discovery. Students in Moyenne Section attend five days per week and may participate in aftercare and lunch programs. Class size ranges from 10 to 12 students with a student-to-teacher ratio of 1:6 with on e teacher and one assistant teacher per class.
Literacy Development
Language and literacy are central components of the Moyenne Section curriculum. Students strengthen their understanding of letter–sound correspondence, helping them connect spoken sounds with written letters. Through guided activities, children practice letter shaping and writing, begin forming syllables, and develop early word recognition skills.
These activities support both reading readiness and writing confidence, encouraging children to experiment with language while building strong phonological awareness.
Early Mathematics
Students are introduced to important mathematical concepts through hands-on exploration and problem-solving activities. The curriculum includes work with numbers and quantities, helping children understand how numbers represent amounts.
Children also explore sequencing and patterning, shape recognition, and simple logical reasoning tasks. These activities help students develop analytical thinking while strengthening their ability to recognize relationships and solve problems independently.
Creativity and Artistic Expression
Art remains an important part of the Moyenne Section experience. Students participate in both collective and individual art projects, allowing them to collaborate with classmates while also developing their personal creativity.
Through painting, drawing, construction, and mixed-media projects, children continue refining their fine motor skills and expressing ideas through visual forms.
Reading Culture and Music
To foster a love of reading, students have access to a lending library, encouraging families to share stories and reading experiences at home. This helps reinforce language development and strengthens the connection between school and home learning.
Music also plays an important role in the curriculum. Students are introduced to basic music theory, listening activities, and instrumental exploration, developing rhythm, listening skills, and musical curiosity.
Schedule and Class Structure
Students may attend five days per week from 8:50 AM to 2:45 PM, with optional aftercare and clubs available for families. Drop-off begins at 8:30 AM.
Classes are intentionally kept small, with a maximum of 8 children per class and a student-to-teacher ratio of 1:4. Each class is supported by one teacher and one assistant, ensuring every child receives individualized attention and care.
Preparing for Kindergarten
Through a balanced combination of structured learning, creativity, and exploration, the Moyenne Section helps children gain the skills and confidence needed for the next stage of their educational journey.
